Disconnecting strongly regular graphs

In this paper, we show that the minimum number of vertices whose removal disconnects a connected strongly regular graph into non-singleton components, equals the size of the neighborhood of an edge for many graphs. These include blocks graphs of Steiner 2-designs, many Latin square graphs and strongly regular graphs whose intersection parameters are at most a quarter of their valency.

Postoperative delirium: disconnecting the network?

214 August 2014 N ETWORKS are central to life, a fact that becomes strikingly apparent when they become dysfunctional. We have all experienced a sense of frustration when the “net is down” or when trapped in an airport because some critical hub in another city has been debilitated by an unexpected snowstorm. Even seemingly minor disruptions in the transfer of information or people can lead to a...

Multicommodity Disconnecting Set Problem

Given a directed network G = (V, A) with positive capacity for each a ∈ A, and a specified set of source-sink pairs of vertices, the objective is to remove a set of arcs with minimum capacity so that the resulting network stops all communication from sources to their respective sinks. We study the facial structure of the polytope associated with the solutions of this problem and identify a gen...

Some effects of disconnecting the cerebral hemispheres.

To start by looking back a little, recall that even a small brain lesion, if critically located in the left or language hemisphere, may selectively destroy a person's ability to read, while at the same time sparing speech and the ability to converse. The printed page continues to be seen, but the words have lost their meaning. This condition typically follows from focal damage to the angular gy...
